About Spitfire
Our philosophy is casual style dinning that puts a smile on your face and fills your belly!
Spitfire Restaurant is family affair, started by husband and wife team Amir and Doris after having a restaurant for 8 years and moving from Melbourne for a sea changed in 2014. Their two sons Danial and Adam also work at the restaurant.
Amir, our chef is a natural having been cooking since he was a child in Malaysia. His inventive menu features many specials that keep our customers coming back to try his latest dish.
Doris is also passionate about food as well as great coffee inspired by her Maltese/Dutch/ German background, she has also worked in hospitality since she was 15 years old, and has completed studies in hospitality.
Amir not only served in the Malaysian Army but was born in Butterworth RAAF Penang, Malaysia where his is father was working as a medic. Some of Amir’s earliest memories are of war planes flying over, which started his fascination that has seen him grow quite a large collection of war memorabilia all on display in the restaurant.
Amir and Doris’s backgrounds make for the most exciting flavour combinations, with the Spitfire menu inspired by Asian and European spices.

Ben Waters with Derek Nash
Ben Waters was nominated by Jools Holland as one of his 10 favourite piano players of all time and named Europe’s #1 Boogie Woogie pianist in the 2016 Boisedale Awards. Ben has performed in over 25 countries around the world & in some of the most iconic of venues. These include Royal Festival Hall; the Royal Albert Hall (Blues Fest with Ronnie Wood); Cadogan Hall (with Bill Wyman); the Lincoln Centre and Les Paul’s Iridium in NY as well as numerous appearances at London’s Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. Truly international and one of the busiest musicians around, Ben regularly tours Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, the Caribbean and the US. His 2018 “Tour Down Under†included the iconic Sydney Opera House where he attracted a full house to the Utzon Room. His performances at the world famous Port Fairy Folk Festival were also a tour highlight where, according to Festival Director Caroline Moore he “blew everyone away … so much so we have invited him back (for 2019)â€. Along the way the band recorded a successful album “Live in Melbourne†at the ABC & PBS FM studios.
Ben’s repertoire, played with ‘flair & bravado’ (Birmingham Post) is an eclectic mix of American music from the early blues through ragtime, jazz, boogie woogie, stride, R&B and the R&R of the 50’s & 60’s. His high octane shows have been described by the London Times as “like a bouncy castle for grown-upsâ€
His stellar career has seen him playing / recording with legendary figures including Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Shakin’ Stevens, Jools Holland, Ray Davies, Leo Sayer, PJ Harvey and others. His most successful album to-date, “Boogie 4 Stu†is a tribute to family friend the late Ian Stewart, a founding member of The Rolling Stones and a major influence on Ben’s career. Rolling Stones past and present joined Ben for this tribute, along with Jools Holland and other old friends. Sales proceeds went to the National Heart Foundation.
Ben recently contributed to Sky TV’s “Music Legends we’ve lost in 2017â€, recording a tribute to Antoine ‘Fats’ Domino. The programme went to air over the Christmas holiday.
Derek Nash has been a member of the Jools Holland Orchestra since 2004. Regarded as “at the forefront of the British jazz movementâ€, Derek has been described a “one of the most versatile saxophonists in the UK today†(The Guardian). He has led Sax Appeal for over 30 years, fronts the funk/fusion band “Protect the Beat†and “Acoustic Quartet†and is a member of the Ronnie Scott’s Blues Explosion. Renowned for energetic, vibrant, passionate & charismatic performances on soprano, alto, tenor & baritone sax, Derek is one of the busiest musicians around performing in 100 or so performances a year with Jools Holland alone including in 2017 2 sell-out shows with Jose Feliciano at the Royal Albert Hall. He has appeared live & on TV with such greats as Eric Clapton, Amy Winehouse, Paul McCartney, Solomon Burke, Annie Lennox & Tom Jones.

The FREE short film festival is the highlight of the program and runs on Saturday 2 February 2019. Â 20 shortlisted Australian filmmakers showcase their films in front of a panel of celebrity judges and film luminaries. Judges award monetary prizes for best short films and other categories including Best Animation, Best Documentary, Best International and the Woodleigh School Emerging Filmmaker Award.
The 2019 event has welcomed a new category – the Rye, Rosebud and Dromana Community Bank® branches of Bendigo Bank My Local Hero Award. Aspiring film makers have the chance to enter a 2-minute film featuring someone who has made an impact on the region and share their inspiring story on the big screen.
This year, the festival’s judging panel includes Lachy Hulme (Offspring, Romper Stomper TV series), Don Hany (Offspring, White Collar Blue, Bad Mothers), Michala Banas (Upper Middle Bogan, McLeod’s Daughters) and Triple M radio host and actor Mick Molloy. They’ll be joined by the world’s best stuntwoman, US actress Danielle Burgio, who is highly regarded for her stunt work as Trinity in the Matrix series. Actress and television presenter Tania Zaetta will MC the evening.
A firm fixture on the regional Victorian calendar, film fans will once again roll out their picnic rugs at the FREE short film festival in Rosebud and enjoy an evening of short films and live music performances along with great local food and wine from the gourmet food truck alley.
The next day, Hastings Foreshore beckons the public to roll out the picnic rugs and dancing shoes at the inaugural music, food and wine gathering, Musiqua. Mornington Peninsula
So much to see, so much to do
Activities and attractions abound across the Mornington Peninsula. And you can discover them all…
There is a lot to discover about the Mornington Peninsula. So many places to go, and things to see and do. Drive along our coastlines with their waterfront restaurants, cafes and lavish cliff-top mansions and you can see why the Mornington Peninsula has long been a favourite destination for lazy beachside holidays that come with green hinterlands and wild ocean beaches on the side.
But if you haven’t visited us for some time, you’ll be very pleasantly surprised at how the Peninsula has completely redefined the traditional beachside holiday. If you’ve never visited us, you’re in for some delightful surprises. Cliff-top mansions, lively local markets, grand historic gardens and galleries spilling over with art and antiques create colour and life around our seaside villages. Our bays tempt you with every type of water sport you could wish for, from sailing to scuba diving, fishing to sea kayaking.
Hinterland gardens and outdoor attractions:Â Come and see a fragrant lavender farm, meandering hedge mazes and gardens with towering trees from the 1860s. How do you like your adventure? Ride, slide, zip or wander through adventure gardens, beautiful landscapes, or stroll along boardwalks through wetlands.
Diving, fishing, swimming with dolphins: Try something you’ve never done before, like learning to scuba dive or swimming with dolphins. You can also go surfing, sailing or stand up paddle boarding, or just cast a lazy fishing line from a pier or book a fishing charter.
Wonderful food and wine:Â Just drive through our region, and the Peninsula’s love affair with wine, fresh produce, seafood and bountiful food on the table is quickly revealed. Taste it, sip it, pick it, catch it, take it home with you. But first, find out more about the Wine Food Farmgate Trail.
