Australia Day Fun Run
Based on the Village Green in Rosebud, the Australia Day festivities are focused around the end of the 10km Fun Run. Runners and their families enjoy music, stalls and free entertainment at the end of their early morning run. For more details refer to the Mornington Peninsula Shires website.
Proudly the Aus Day Fun Run is organised solely by volunteers from local community groups.
Catering for a wide range of competitors the Aus Day Fun Run has two start points. For the more dedicated runners we have a 10km run which starts at Safety Beach; the second start point is a 5.3km Run/Walk aimed more towards children and families. Both events take you along the foreshore bay trail and finish at the Village Green in Rosebud.
On finishing at the Village Green there is a flag raising ceremony and presentations for all place getters in each category of the fun run. Along with plenty of fun and free family activities held on the Village Green, the fun run is a must for all sporting enthusiasts as well as family and friends looking to celebrate Australia Day on the Mornington Peninsula.
Funds raised from the day support local sporting and community groups whose members volunteer their time each year to run this fantastic event.’

The FREE short film festival is the highlight of the program and runs on Saturday 2 February 2019. Â 20 shortlisted Australian filmmakers showcase their films in front of a panel of celebrity judges and film luminaries. Judges award monetary prizes for best short films and other categories including Best Animation, Best Documentary, Best International and the Woodleigh School Emerging Filmmaker Award.
The 2019 event has welcomed a new category – the Rye, Rosebud and Dromana Community Bank® branches of Bendigo Bank My Local Hero Award. Aspiring film makers have the chance to enter a 2-minute film featuring someone who has made an impact on the region and share their inspiring story on the big screen.
This year, the festival’s judging panel includes Lachy Hulme (Offspring, Romper Stomper TV series), Don Hany (Offspring, White Collar Blue, Bad Mothers), Michala Banas (Upper Middle Bogan, McLeod’s Daughters) and Triple M radio host and actor Mick Molloy. They’ll be joined by the world’s best stuntwoman, US actress Danielle Burgio, who is highly regarded for her stunt work as Trinity in the Matrix series. Actress and television presenter Tania Zaetta will MC the evening.
A firm fixture on the regional Victorian calendar, film fans will once again roll out their picnic rugs at the FREE short film festival in Rosebud and enjoy an evening of short films and live music performances along with great local food and wine from the gourmet food truck alley.
The next day, Hastings Foreshore beckons the public to roll out the picnic rugs and dancing shoes at the inaugural music, food and wine gathering, Musiqua. There is a lot to discover about the Mornington Peninsula. So many places to go, and things to see and do. Drive along our coastlines with their waterfront restaurants, cafes and lavish cliff-top mansions and you can see why the Mornington Peninsula has long been a favourite destination for lazy beachside holidays that come with green hinterlands and wild ocean beaches on the side.
But if you haven’t visited us for some time, you’ll be very pleasantly surprised at how the Peninsula has completely redefined the traditional beachside holiday. If you’ve never visited us, you’re in for some delightful surprises. Cliff-top mansions, lively local markets, grand historic gardens and galleries spilling over with art and antiques create colour and life around our seaside villages. Our bays tempt you with every type of water sport you could wish for, from sailing to scuba diving, fishing to sea kayaking.
Hinterland gardens and outdoor attractions:Â Come and see a fragrant lavender farm, meandering hedge mazes and gardens with towering trees from the 1860s. How do you like your adventure? Ride, slide, zip or wander through adventure gardens, beautiful landscapes, or stroll along boardwalks through wetlands.
Diving, fishing, swimming with dolphins: Try something you’ve never done before, like learning to scuba dive or swimming with dolphins. You can also go surfing, sailing or stand up paddle boarding, or just cast a lazy fishing line from a pier or book a fishing charter.
Wonderful food and wine:Â Just drive through our region, and the Peninsula’s love affair with wine, fresh produce, seafood and bountiful food on the table is quickly revealed. Taste it, sip it, pick it, catch it, take it home with you. But first, find out more about the Wine Food Farmgate Trail.
